Among many things 2001 was an unusual year for the album in Hip-Hop; Jay’s “The Blueprint” and N.E.R.D.’s “..In Search Of” dropped next to “Petestrumentals” and Cannibal Ox's “The Cold Vein”. The Golden Era and the Independent 12” era met each other at a fork in the music industry’s ever-winding road. On December 4th alone De La Soul, Outkast, Cypress Hill, Fat Joe all dropped albums. Somewhere in the midst of all these releases lay a true sonic-jewel, an ultra-modern opus with two feet firmly planted on the corner of President & Franklin in Brooklyn. That unassuming masterpiece from a forgotten era is none other that the Jigmastas seminal debut Infectious - released here for the first time ever in digital download/streaming format.

Leading up to the "Infectious" original May 22nd, 2001 release, DJ’s worldwide faithfully collected Jigs singles from their own
label Beyond Real, making the duo one of the more prolific groups of mid-90’s underground. DJ Spinna’s sound would become a signature - that lands in such a perfect way here on Infectious. It’s a deep groove, steeped in samples and seasoned with live instrumentation. Spinna’s spacial, tight yet layered beat-scape made Kriminul’s narratives bounce into your imagination. Chemistry was key but what you’ll find in revisiting these fantastic songs is that even from 2001, the topics and concepts remain earnest and relevant in 2017. - Peter Agoston

Gutted I discovered this gang a bit late in the day, but what a legacy left behind. I saw them play once and I was blown away without ever having heard them beforehand, but if I knew the anthems the way I do now it would have been even better!
